45-years jubilee of sister-relations between Petrozavodsk and La Rochelle

Petrozavodsk and La Rochelle (France) will celebrate 45 years of sister-relations in 2018. The sister-cities agreement was signed in 1973. According to the tradition every 5 years cites organize joint actions to attract attention to the jubilee dates. The previous 40-years anniversary was celebrated in La Rochelle in 2013.

La Rochelle is a city in western France and a seaport on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic Ocean.

During the visit of a La Rochelle delegation to Petrozavodsk in February 2017 the parties agreed about the 45 anniversary celebration within the frameworks of the annual winter festival Hyperborea mid-February 2018 in Petrozavodsk.

   Soon Petrozavodsk will meet its French friends. A group of Lyceum Jean Dautet students and teachers, a group of “Druzhba” friendship society and an official delegation are coming to Petrozavodsk.

The Jubilee program will include a number of informational and cultural events, days of French cuisine, seminars and presentations on French language, open lectures about history and traditions of France and etc. One of the first events is going to be opening of a joint art exhibition “The last summer day: Petrozavodsk August 31 and La Rochelle September 21” prepared by a graphic artist from Petrozavodsk Igor Kotukov and a photographer Julien Chauvet from La Rochelle. The history of relations between the cities will be presented on the archive documents’ exhibition. Days of French cinema will show new movies. The French guests can take part in the Winter Carnival, enjoy the Ice and Snow sculptures contest, visit friends and meet Russian culture.
